Michael Nutter, 98th Mayor of Philadelphia, Joins Board of Advisors

NEW YORK, NY - Novele is happy to announce that Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia from 2008 to 2016, has joined our Board of Advisors. In 2009, Mayor Nutter announced Greenworks Philadelphia, Philadelphia’s first sustainability plan with the goal of becoming the greenest city in America by 2015. "Greenworks" outlined 15 measurable targets and 166 initiatives in five topic areas: energy, environment, equity, economy, and engagement. In particular, Greenworks was the catalyst for driving reduction of municipal energy use and an increase in alternative energy use. It also helped drive the passage of energy benchmarking and disclosure legislation by City Council resulting in greater adoption of energy efficient building operations and investments throughout Philadelphia.

"I am very excited about the opportunity to provide strategic advice to Novele and the great team that [CEO] AJ Glassberg is leading," said Nutter. "This company is on the cutting edge of innovation in energy efficiency and making renewable energy a reality in cities. The work of Novele is consistent with many of our innovative efforts when I served as Mayor to make Philadelphia the number one green city in America."

"Mayor Nutter has quickly become an invaluable member of our advisory board," said AJ Glassberg. "Our work together will allow Novele to position itself as an important solution for cities and building owners as they seek to achieve energy efficiency and sustainability goals. The work we are doing now will positively impact future generations and we couldn’t ask for a better representative from the public sector to work with us on our mission."

Mayor Nutter is a Professor of Practice at Columbia University/SIPA in Urban Affairs and is a Senior Fellow with the Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities Program, among a number of other active engagements.

Before becoming the 98th Mayor of Philadelphia, Nutter was a member of the Philadelphia City Council from the 4th district and had served as the 52nd Ward Democratic Leader until 1990. Mayor Nutter also served as the President of the United States Conference of Mayors from June 2012 to June 2013. He received an honorary doctorate in public service honoris causa from Saint Joseph's University in 2015.
